"It would have been difficult to interpret if it weren't for her unique style," Garrard says.īut he hopes that the discovery could help to hone the existing rough-and-ready methods for diagnosing dementia. This means that the finished novels are very close to her original writings, quirks and all. The researchers' project was helped by Murdoch's habit of writing her novels longhand, with few revisions and allowing little editing. “I had felt all along that there was something different about Iris's last novel, that it was moving but strange in many ways.” ![]()

That is very much to his credit, I think. If you study Buddhism at all you will find a lot of familiar ground here although he only once, if my search worked correctly, mentions the word Buddha or Buddhism. “How many times have you been unable to fully enjoy a special moment because you couldn’t stop thinking about what was missing?” ![]() But he does suggest, rightly so, I think, that we “throw away the idea that you need to pause your life until you are fully healed.” Life is motion. His vision of self is a very healthy one. There is material on self-awareness, personal relationships, and society at large, but it all comes back to self. I have never encountered this author or his work before reading this book but was not surprised to learn, after finishing the book, that he began his thoughtful journey during a meditation course focused on the self. ![]() 6/23/2023 0 Comments Ecology of mind![]()

Her book clearly shows that this assumption comes with a cost, leading to a lack of public debate or forums for dissent, erasing the various voices that are crucial in building accessible futures. In contrast, Kafer argues that seeing disability as self-evidently negative is a political decision based on ableist thinking that wrongly assumes and constructs the inherent value of able-bodiedness and able-mindedness over disabled bodies and minds. Kafer illustrates that disability is cast outside of the realm of politics not only in popular culture and political movements in the contemporary United States, but also in many critical theories that treat gender, race, class, and sexuality as political.
